Visiting Dubach: Louisiana’s Historic Dog Trot Capital

Dubach, Louisiana sign and American Flag

On US 167 North, Dubach Louisiana sits close to the Lincoln and Union Parish line.

Dubach is a pass-through kind of town. To my recollection, there isn’t a single caution light in Dubach.

But don’t let its size fool you.

Dubach is cool. It’s small. It’s friendly.

And, it’s the dog trot capital of the world.

The (locally) famous historic Autrey House, is located about a mile west of town on LA 151. There’s also an old dog trot house right in town.

Dubach has the Chicken Festival too.

You may be thinking I’m quite familiar with Dubach.

Well, you would be correct.

I lived on the (easterly) outskirts of Dubach several years ago and have many fond memories from that time of my life.

Dubach’s neat, small downtown area—centered around a single main street—is a photographer’s (like me) dream. The brick buildings and old-timey storefronts are perfect for capturing with a camera.

Not more than just a few blocks over, catty-cornered from the main street area lies Dubach Lake (more like a big pond, but I’ve heard it referred to as both a lake and a pond).

Complete with cypress trees and alligator warning signs, it used to have some decent bass in it. But it’s been 15 (or more) years since I last fished it, so I’m not sure about the fishing anymore.

I hope you enjoy the images.
