Historic Unionville General Store – North Louisiana Commerce Of Yesteryear

I don’t recall when I first noticed the old Unionville General Store. I always (somehow) knew it was there and was aware of it.

But I mean really noticed it as in, ‘something to appreciate’. Something to discover more about.

Located on the northwestern side of the T where US 167 (North) and LA 822 meet, the Unionville General Store is listed as a Notable Building and has its very own historical monument.

If I recall correctly (small chance of that), in the late 1990s and/or very early 2000s, US 167 underwent major construction. It was widened from a single, 2-lane highway to a divided highway with dedicated northbound and southbound double-lane roads with some median crossover sections at various intervals in many areas.

I wonder about the store’s location at that time as it likely needed to be moved more to allow for the road right-of-way expansion. I could be wrong too and I appreciate any clarifying comments from readers.

Either way, luckily the Unionville General Store remains intact (at the time of this publishing) and is in pretty good shape for what it is and from where (the era) it came. Places like this store draw me like a moth to a flame.
